Artistic Letters Decor, Tutorial and Discount!

Have you noticed that letters are all the rage these days?  We see them everywhere, in cards, scrapbooking and fun home decor.  

Photographer Jodi Gerber of ArtisticLetters has created an entire catalog of black & white letter images throughout the past 3 years – all by taking photos of objects in nature that resembled letters of the alphabet. She recently decided to offer her ENTIRE catalog of 250+ letter images to the public on CD or Download so that anyone could create their own designs!   It’s a truly original way to make artwork for your home - or even for scrapbooking, greeting cards, and digital designs consisting of wedding invitations, baby’s birth, etc.).  Endless possibilities for whatever the mind can imagine!

We decided to create a home decor project with ArtisticLetters and take advantage of these gorgeous images.  First, we picked up a wood sign at the local thrift store for $1.50.  We'll be covering up the existing design so I wasn't worried about the Christmas theme.  We also decided it would work better upside down, using the top of the sign as a base so it will sit on a shelf rather than hang on a wall.  

After cleaning it up, I added some black paint to the edges.  This will give the sign just a bit of a distressed look.  Plus, it covered up some small scratches that were on the used sign!

Next, I needed to measure to see what size I should print my ArtisticLetters.  For this sign, the area where the letters will go is 3" x 21".  I decided to use CHERISH as my word which is 7 letters.  This means that each letter will need to be approximately 3" x 3" to fit into the space.  However, to keep the proportions correct I resized the letters to 2" x 3" and added a heart.  ArtisticLetters has hearts which you can add if the letters you want to use don't fill up the space you have.  I used Photoshop Elements to resize my letters for this project.  It was really fun choosing from the letters provided in the download as you get many more than just one of each letter!

Next I printed and cut out my ArtisticLetters.  After ensuring that they would fit into the space on the wood sign, I glued them down with Aleen's Tacky Glue (my fav craft glue!).  This was a very, very easy project with the use of the ArtisticLetters.  You could also brush on a coat of Mod Podge for sealant and to give it a finished look.

I also printed out letters to make the word IMAGINE and I'm thinking a banner will be fabulous for these letters!  The possibilities really are endless with the letter files!!
